The Laurel Exchange Club honored officers of the year Thursday during a luncheon at the Laurel Country Club.
Receiving recognition was Jason Buxton of the Jones County Sheriff’s Office as Deputy of the Year and Jeff Monk of the Laurel Police Department as Officer of the Year. Club president Casey Coffin presented both officers with Rossi handguns.
“What you all do for the community is outstanding, and it takes special people to do what you do,” Coffin said.
“I am thankful for the commitment Jason has made to both the department and Jones County,” Sheriff Alex Hodge said. “I am delighted for Jason to be a part of the sheriff’s department.”
Laurel Police Chief Walter “Bear” Martin said, “Jeff has become a very well rounded officer. The Laurel Police Department is proud to have him.”
