JCSD confirms rape in Ovett

— Public Relations Director Shaunita White of the Jones County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that a rape had been reported in Ovett Sunday morning.
Although rumors were circulating Sunday evening that this was another attack by what law enforcement officials say could be “a serial rapist,” White said she couldn’t verify that information because “the Sheriff’s Department is still in the process of gathering information. We will be able to give more information tomorrow.”
In September 2007 an elderly Sandersville woman was raped. Earlier in the same year, two elderly victims were attacked, all three claim a Hispanic male was the assailant. Law enforcement officials were also looking at the possible connection of a rape reported in 2005.
