Arnett Phillips is the acting police chief in Sandersville. The board of aldermen appointed Phillips at a special meeting Tuesday night.
Phillips replaces Ronnie Parker, who submitted his letter of resignation to Mayor Pat Lightsey Monday. “I was tired and ready to go the house,” Parker said Wednesday. “With all the hours you have to put in, on call 24/7, I was just ready to go.”
Phillips is a former police chief for the town and has recently been working in the public works department and part-time for the police department.
“We’ll let it sit there a little bit,” Lightsey said in regard to selecting a permanent chief. “We haven’t agreed to take applications yet.” He said the position will probably be discussed at Tuesday’s regular board meeting.
Parker became police chief of Sandersville for the second time in February of 2007. He also served as chief in 2000.
