Alleged gunman in home invasion murder to stand trial next month
From staff reports
The capital murder trial of Carl Holder, 22, is scheduled to begin Feb. 5 in Jones County Circuit Court. Holder is charged with the March 30, 2008, home invasion murder of Frederico Ramirez Perez, 28, 203 Hoy Rd., Laurel.
According to the sheriff’s office, Perez confronted five men who broke into his home shortly after 2 a.m., and was fatally shot by one of the men, later identified as Holder.
Others arrested in connection with the same incident were Deshawn McDonald, 17, 1008 Front St., Laurel; Joseph Spivey, 26, Springhill Road, Laurel; Victor Moffett, 19, 188 Houston Rd., Laurel; and Tony Williamson, 18, 760 Gordon Dr., Laurel. They were each initially charged with capital murder because the murder occurred during the commission of a robbery.
McDonald and Spivey were later charged with accessory after the fact. Buckley said Moffett’s charge will be changed to accessory after the fact. Williamson remains charged with capital murder.
Following Holder’s arrest, Laurel police charged him with attempted armed robbery and aggravated assault in connection with the shooting of a clerk at Cecil’s Curb Store, 3222 North Fifth Ave., on Dec. 15, 2005. Tonio Williamson was also arrested in connection with the incident.
