Jones County native Stacey Pickering is officially now Mississippi’s state auditor.
Pickering held an intimate luncheon at Jackson’s Capitol Club just before a swearing in ceremony. He spoke directly to his parents, children, wife, and other family.
“I want to thank all of you for all you’ve done,” Pickering said. “We couldn’t have done it without you, mother and daddy. (The children) have dug in the dirt at the Neshoba County Fair. Kids, I want to thank you for helping on the campaign. Thank you, Whitney (wife) for being there. Being an organizer, an active part of the team. I just wanted to thank each of you with an intimate lunch with our closest friends and family.”
Pickering also thanked his uncle, Judge Charles Pickering, and cousin, Congressman Chip Pickering.
“Chip, I appreciate your guidance and that showing of support. Not only my cousin, but a brother. Uncle Charles, you’ve laid that foundation. You’re well-loved across the state and I appreciate the love and guidance you’ve given me,” Pickering said.
Pickering’s first day in office was Thursday. He officially took office after the swearing in ceremony at a joint session of the Mississippi Senate and House of Representatives.
He got some advice from his uncle before taking office. Judge Pickering told his nephew to serve with compassion, courtesy, and grace.
“It is an office that may take boldness and courage on other occasions,” Judge Pickering said. “Keep your heart in the hand of the Lord.”
The day began quickly. Pickering said he already has messages waiting at his office from different units.
