Dear Laurel Citizens:
After careful consideration, I have decided to run for City Council, Ward 2. I am asking you to help me be a new voice on the City Council. It is my intention to be a voice for all citizens of Laurel.
I feel I am qualified because I am a local business owner. I am a licensed contractor, and I was a fireman with the Laurel Fire Department for over 20 years. I know first hand the issues we are facing with massive budget problems and the threat of a water and sewer rate increase. It just does not make good business sense to spend more than we have. The good citizens of Laurel deserve better use of their tax dollars.
I have studied the needs and assets of our community and have a strong sense of public policy that is necessary to build a road to progress and prosperity.
What we know is that this City thrives when its people thrive. Our greatest assets are right here — our people, our children, our local businesses. I know we can believe in ourselves again. The larger businesses that have driven this city’s economy are homegrown. They started here with humble roots; we must match the potential of our people and of newer businesses with a commitment from the City at the policy level. There are resources here we must learn to nurture and tap into again.
I believe in this city, choosing Laurel as my place to live and work for over five decades. I will do everything in my power to make her the best possible place to live, work and play for all citizens. I humbly request your support and vote at the polls on Tuesday, June 2.
Sincerely,
Ken Keyes
