Forestry association to host ladies' forum
To the Leader-Call
The Jones County Forestry Association will sponsor a 2008 Ladies Forestry Forum July 29 at the Rogers Green House on Fifth Avenue at Seventh Street in Laurel.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and the program will conclude at 11:45 a.m.
Forestry is the second largest agriculture income producing commodity in Jones County. More than 60 percent of the private timberland is owned by ladies who often have to make important timber management decisions.
This forum is designed to offer information that will enable them to make more informed decisions.
Speakers and subjects will be William T. Green on the history of Eastman-Gardiner Lumber company, Ramona Blackledge (tax assessor for Jones County) on Ad Valorum Taxes, Ruth Cook (Molpus Timberlands, LLC) on Forest Management Planning, Angela Holland (Plum Creek Timberlands) on Site Preparation and Reforestation, John Howard Shows (attorney with Shows-Powell Law Firm in Jackson) on Estate Planning and Dr. Debbie Gaddis (Extension Forester at MSU) on Land and Timber Taxes.
This will be the third Ladies Forestry Forum.
Everyone with an interest in timber and forest land is urged to take advantage of this opportunity. Call 601-428-5201 for more information.
There will be refreshments and door prizes.
