Free block party

There will be a free community block party from 5:30 - 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 1, at Glade Softball Field on Hwy. 15 South featuring Children’s ID by the Jones County Sheriff’s Department, fire safety, blood pressure screening, balloon sculpting, and face painting. There will be free food, fun, and door prizes. Call 601-649-4246 for information.

Community Challenge breakfast

The Economic Development Authority will feature Challenge of the Day: Young Professionals — Getting Involved at its next Community Challenge Breakfast. The free breakfast is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, at the Laurel Train Depot. There is no charge, but reservations are required by calling 601-649-3031.

GED tests

The Pine Belt Education Center offers testing preparation and and dates for the GED. Upcoming dates include August 26, Sept. 23 and 30, Oct. 21 and 28, and Nov. 11 and 18. The cost is $40 for people taking the test the first time and $12 for each subject area retaken. Free GED prep classes are available. People planning to take the GED test are also encouraged to take a free pretest that determines readiness for the actual GED. The pretest is given every Monday at 5:30 p.m.

Free classes

Free classes are available in literacy, adult basic education, and GED preparation at Pine Belt Education Center on Monday and Tuesday evenings. Registration for the classes is on Monday evenings at 5:30 p.m. If you need to learn to read, upgrade basic skills, or get a GED, call Mary Jo Blackledge at 649-4141 for more information.

NEJ C/O 1988 reunion

NEJ class of 1988 will hold its 20 year reunion in October. Weekend events will begin with tailgating before the Homecoming game at NEJ Friday, Oct. 24th. Then attend the class reunion on Sat.
