SCRMC to hold blood drive
South Central Regional Medical Center will host a blood drive Thursday, Aug. 21 and Friday, Aug. 22, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Conference Rooms at the hospital. Right at the present time, all blood types are needed. All donors will receive a “priceless” t-shirt, free cholesterol check, have a chance to win a weekly $100 gas card, LCD TV, GPS Navigation System and many more door prizes. The Jones County Cattlemen’s Association will be grilling 100 percent all beef hamburgers and hot dogs with the trimming.

Craven reunion
The descendants of David and Mary Craven will be having a family reunion at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, August 24, at Dixie Electric. Bring plenty of food and drinks. All Cravens and friends are invited to attend. For more information call Nell Gieger at 601-426-3884.
Forestry/wildlife festival
Clarke County’s 18th annual Forestry and Wildlife Festival will be held Saturday, Sept. 27, at Archusa Water Park in Quitman. The festival will feature activities for all age groups, a variety of children’s activities, soccer tournament, kiddy land with Nickelodeon-type games, bass fishing competition, arts and crafts vendors, exhibits, industrial vendors, lots of good food and live entertainment. Pageants
Mississippi’s Covermiss and Coverboy USA will be holding preliminary pageants across the state of Mississippi over the next several months. The pageant is open to girls 0-25 and boys 0-3. Covermiss is a family-oriented, scholarship system that promotes community service and involvement while teaching confidence, good sportsmanship and leadership.
AARP meeting
AARP Chapter #4016 will meet at Mt. Vernon Congregation Methodist Church Highway 15 South of Laurel at 9 a.m. August 18. Blood pressure and sugar test will be given by the staff of South Central Regional Medical Center. Remember donations for the Veterans Museum and the Readers Digest for the military men and women. The special speaker will be chief Shealy from the Jones county Sheriff Dept. who will be speaking on crime, effects on our area and how we can help by being alert and quick to report it.
