CALENDAR of local events and activities



DAR meeting

The Daughters of the American Revolution local chapter will meet at 3 p.m. May 20 at First United Methodist Church in downtown Laurel.

Voter’s Assoc. meeting

The Mississippi Voter’s Association will meet at 6 p.m. May 22 at the Laurel Train Depot. Anyone interested in participating in the presidential election or other events is encouraged to join. Membership is free to all registered voters. Food provided. Questions? Call 601-326-2025.

Blues Festival

On May 11 at 3 p.m., the annual Mother’s Day Blues Festival is scheduled at the Magnolia Center in Laurel. A flea market/antique show is scheduled 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. June 21 and 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. June 22.

MOAA to meet

The Pine Belt Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) will hold its monthly meeting noon May 21 at the Laurel Country Club. The luncheon meeting is open to all active duty military officers, former officers, members of the Reserve and National Guard, retirees, and their surviving spouses. The guest speaker, William L. Walker, Jr. Presiding Justice, Supreme Court of Mississippi, will speak on the Mississippi Court System. Members are encouraged to invite guests.

Taste of So. Miss. Food Festival

The Mississippi Voter’s Association will host a Taste of Southern Mississippi Food Festival in Mason Park from July 4-6. Free to the public. There will be food vendors and musical entertainment. Friday - jazz; Saturday - blues; Sunday - gospel. The purpose is to raise money to assist in the upcoming election. Food vendors are welcome to apply. Call 601-326-2025.
