CALENDAR of local events and activities
Bogue Homa Lake open
Bogue Homa Lake in Jones County is now open to boating and skiing only. The lake is not open to fishing and won’t be for another two years at least. The lake is open from noon until sunset Thursday through Sunday weekly.
Council of Negro Women events
The National Council of Negro Women will meet at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at 220 East 1st St. for their regular meeting. The National Council of Negro Women’s annual banquet will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at the Laurel Train Depot. Proceeds will benefit the 2009 State Conference. Donation will be $10. National Day of Prayer
The National Day of Prayer will begin at noon Thursday, May 1, on the Courthouse steps in both Laurel and Ellisville and conclude by 1 p.m. Please bring your lawn chairs and join us as we pray for God to intervene for our great nation. Hill annual reunion
The descendants of Caleb Atkisson Hill and Mary Ann Smith Hill will have their annual reunion Saturday, May 3, beginning at 5 p.m. at the SoSo Community Center. All descendants and friends are invited to take a dish and enjoy the fellowship. For more information, call Gaylon Harper at 601-729-8129.
