National Day of Prayer
The National Day of Prayer will begin at noon Thursday, May 1, on the Courthouse steps in both Laurel and Ellisville and conclude by 1 p.m. Please bring your lawn chairs and join us as we pray for God to intervene for our great nation. Hill annual reunion
The descendants of Caleb Atkisson Hill and Mary Ann Smith Hill will have their annual reunion Saturday, May 3, beginning at 5 p.m. at the SoSo Community Center. All descendants and friends are invited to take a dish and enjoy the fellowship. For more information, call Gaylon Harper at 601-729-8129.
‘Girl fighting’ T-shirts
“I fight like a girl” pink T-shirts in honor of West Jones Elementary School teacher Sallye Sumrall are being sold by Friends of Sallye. The T-shirts are $15. To order, call 601-433-4602 or 601-425-5873. Please do not call the school for orders.
Jordan World Circus
The Magnolia Center on Ellisville Blvd. has several events planned for the next few months. The Jordan World Circus takes place at 7 p.m. April 30. At 7:30 p.m. May 2, there will be a benefit bull bash. On May 11 at 3 p.m., the annual Mother’s Day Blues Festival is scheduled. Finally, a flea market/antique show is scheduled 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. June 21 and 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. June 22.
LSD developing application
The Laurel School District is developing its annual Consolidated Federal Programs Application. The Consolidated Federal Programs Application includes Title I (Improving Basic Programs), Title II (Teacher/Principal Training and Recruitment and Class Size Reduction, Title IV (Safe/Drug Free Schools and Communities) and Title V (Innovative Programs). Parents with planning input or suggestions should contact Kenda Covington, Director of State and Federal Programs, at 601-649-6391 or the principal of their child’s school by May 9.
