Professor and Department Chair of Cardiothoracic Surgery and the Director of Stanford Cardiovascular Institute at the Stanford University School of Medicine, Dr. Robert C. Robbins will be returning to his alma mater, Jones County Junior College.
He will be the guest speaker on today at 10 a.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium as a part of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society’s lecture series, which are free and open to the public.
Dr. Robbins will be highlighting some of the advances in heart care and advances in his research, including cardiac transplantation in patients over 69 years of age.
The Ellisville native graduated from JCJC in 1977 before beginning a long and successful career in cardiothoracic surgery.
Some of his current research interests involve stem cell biology and the use of stem cells for the treatment of congestive heart failure and the study of chronic cardiac transplant rejection.
Dr. Robbins has a long list of accomplishments including a patent developed by he and his colleagues for the “Method and Composition for Inhibiting Cardiovascular Cell Proliferation”.
Jones PTK sponsor Pat Holifield proudly explains the importance of having Dr. Robbins as a guest lecturer. “We are especially excited to welcome one of our alumni to share with our students about his research, career and journey to success.
He is a shining star in the Ellisville community and globally because of his research and surgical expertise. Most importantly, Dr. Robbins continues to inspire students as an educator at the Stanford University School of Medicine.”
