The Harry Potter craze continues nationally and in Ellisville with an encore presentation of “Potter Power”. On Tuesday, October 2nd, Jones County Junior College English instructor, Dr. Sharon Gerald will continue her exploration of the Harry Potter reading phenomenon. As part of the Phi Theta Kappa lecture series, she will discuss the literary elements in the Potter books compared to other literary elements like Greek mythology. “Potter Power” will be presented free to the public in the JCJC Fine Arts Auditorium at 8:30 a.m.
“This is very timely,” said JCJC PTK sponsor Pat Holifield. “October is national literacy month and J.K. Rowling released her seventh Harry Potter book in July. Dr. Gerald did a fabulous presentation last year so we asked her to join us again this year.”
Dr. Sharon Gerald has been teaching writing and literature classes at JCJC since 1996. She has a Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University and is active in local, regional and national professional organizations, including the Two Year College English Association and the Conference on College Composition and Communication. An avid reader and an avid Harry Potter fan, her favorite character is Dumbledore, and she counts among her accomplishments that she was mature enough to wait 6 a.m. the day the seventh book was released before going out to purchase her copy.
