NEJ photography students view LRMA photographic exhibit

Photo/Submitted

Northeast Jones High School digital photography students under the instruction of Debbie Griffin were excited to have the opportunity to view the Peoples of the Plateau photographic exhibit at the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art. The exhibit featured 51 black and white photographs of Native Americans taken by Lee Moorhouse from 1898 – 1915 of the Indian tribes located near Pendleton, Oregon. The photographs were reproduced from Moorhouse’s original glass plate negatives. Griffin’s students were able to compare the photos taken with Moorehouse’s large camera and tripod on dry gelatin plates to today’s photos taken with small portable and convenient digital cameras. “It’s really hard to imagine that someone had to carry around and set up all that equipment just to take one or two pictures,” commented Ryan Padgett. “Now I really appreciate that all we have to do is pull a small camera from a pocket, snap a picture and go,” said Jamie Hinton. Students attending the exhibit were Chastity Brashier, Forest Johnson, Chucky Nichols, Alisa Rayborn, Kyashia Newell, Kelli Shear, Laurie Anderson, Christie Dickerson, Ryan Padgett, and Jamie Hinton.
