Jones County Junior College will host its second annual Kids’ College June 9-13, for children who will complete grades first through sixth by May 2008.
The purpose of the Kids’ College is to promote a desire for lifelong learning. Some of the topics in this year’s classes include learning about the Renaissance period in art class, reading body language and non-verbal communication in psychology class, learning the anatomical differences and similarities between animals in anatomy class, learning conversational skills and Holiday customs in Spanish class, and learning problem solving and team building skills in physical education class.
“At JCJC, we want to motivate young, eager, and curious minds to explore challenging topics and activities that will promote advanced critical and analytical thinking skills,” said Missie Meeks, program coordinator. “Many of the learning activities will use a hands-on approach to elevate the level and excitement of learning.”
Registration is on a first-register first-pay basis. Tuition is $125 per child, which includes all class materials, lunch and a snack each day. Checks must be received by May 23. Classes begin at 8 a.m. and end at 2 p.m. each day. To receive a registration form, parents can contact Meeks at 477-4073 or missie.meeks@jcjc.edu
