James to perform piano recital

Zachary James, a graduating senior at South Jones High School, will be performing a piano recital, Saturday, May 10 at 7 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Laurel. The recital will feature works of Bartok, Brahms, Handel, Liszt, Mozart, and Tcherepnin. Zachary is the son of Holland and Anita James, of Jones County, and is a student of Janine Beasley, in Laurel.
James is in the Honors Program at South Jones High School, and plays trombone in the South Jones High School Band, sitting first chair.
He is listed in Who's Who Among American High School Students. He has been selected for Mississippi Lions Band tenth through twelfth grades.
James is in the trombone choir at the University of Southern Mississippi. He has been involved in South Eastern Mississippi Band Directors Association since seventh grade, sitting first chair for the past two years in the Gold Band, which is the top high school band.
He has participated in the Jones County Junior College band clinic since seventh grade, sitting the same chair, and has also been in All State for four years.
He has been invited to tour Europe this summer with the Blue Lake Symphonic Orchestra of Michigan.
As a pianist, he has performed in the Jones County Music Teachers Association Showcase Recital for the past three years.
At MMTA (Mississippi Music Teachers Association) Auditions, he has met the requirements for SSRR (State Special Recognition Recitals) every time he has entered, and has received a Superior rating at the Baptist Hymn Festival every time he has entered.
James maintains his own private teaching studio. He plans to major in music at the University of Southern Mississippi in the fall.
